Family Portraits in the Snow

Today is a snow day. It's been snowing all day and night, and the roads are slippery and messy. The school is closed. Who would want to go outside in such weather? Us photographers. As far as winter photography goes, fresh snow ranks second only to the Christmas lights. It’s so light and clean and beautiful, like in a fairytale. Is it too cold to pose in a fancy outfit? Who cares! Put on a warm coat, hat and gloves and get the most out of the day.

Still not convinced that snow is great for a photo session? Think about all the joy you felt in your childhood years. Don’t hold yourself back! Yes, we may not look poised and elegant, but those are the moments we want our children to remember us by, that we aren’t all about chastising and thinking about the future, that parents may actually be fun to be around. We taught our kids to sled and shake the snow from a tree and start a snowball fight and make snow angels and just love and accept the world around us.
