In the world of dance and ice skating, where movement and grace intertwine, there are moments that deserve to be preserved for a lifetime. I had the incredible opportunity to photograph the talented Ella Sanfilippo for her high school senior album. Ella, adorned in a captivating array of show costumes, brought to life a magical journey that showcased her passion and dedication. From the whimsical Willy Wonka to elegant tutus and captivating blue and pink dresses, each costume told a unique story that we immortalized through the lens.
Dance photography can be challenging, especially when it comes to capturing portrait-quality photographs on the ice. With low lighting and fog rising from the melting ice, Ella and her mother, Melissa, wisely chose a studio session to ensure that every detail and movement were beautifully captured. The collection of costumes Ella had worn over the years was a testament to her versatility as a dancer and ice skater and provided us with an array of artistic possibilities.
Beyond the sheer beauty of Ella's dance performances, her impeccable physical form and talent presented an excellent opportunity to create a stunning heirloom album. This album, crafted in Italy with meticulous attention to detail, would serve as a cherished family treasure for generations to come. Wrapped in genuine leather and printed on exquisite Amalfi paper that has captivated artists for centuries, it was the perfect medium to preserve Ella's journey through dance.
During our photography session, which lasted for three hours, we embarked on a creative journey. Inspired by the elegant paintings of Edgar Degas and the vibrant spirit of cabaret performances à la Liza Minelli, we created a variety of shots that encapsulated Ella's range as a performer. From gracefully posed classics to energetic action shots, we aimed to capture the essence of her talent and dedication.
As our session came to an end, we decided to embrace the magic that can be found anywhere. The final shot captured the behind-the-scenes moments, reminding us that the unexpected can often lead to the most enchanting results. It served as a testament to Ella's passion, her dedication to her craft, and the joy that emanates from pursuing one's dreams.
