Alena’s Studio Headshots in Pink
We were creating headshots for Sewickley Academy’s senior school musical and Alena asked me to keep these portraits as well. I’m in the process of creating a wall art showroom in the studio and these portraits will be a great addition.
Keep an eye for the musical action shots in early March. I’ve just been backstage and the decorations promise to be stunning!
Mishon Levine in Sewickley Academy’s musical Fiddler on the Roof
The last actor for Sewickley Academy’s ‘Fiddler on the Roof” without whom the whole musical would be lacking its crucial ingredient - the live sounds of a violin. What a performance. Bravo, Mishon!
Brooke Menzock in Sewickley Academy’s musical Fiddler on the Roof
It feels like yesterday when we produced this headshot for beautiful Brooke for the Sewickley Academy’s Fiddler on the Roof senior school musical that showed just days before the lockdown.
I can’t believe she’s already a senior this year. Stay tuned for a blog with her senior pictures.
Clare Cable in Sewickley Academy’s musical Fiddler on the Roof.
I still have 3 headshots to share from before the pandemic. Here’s my favorite portrait of Claire that she selected to represent her in the Fiddler on the Roof musical program at Sewickley Academy.
Actor’s portfolio for Tristan Heavner
Tristan needed just one headshot for his theater auditions. We talked about the roles he was aspiring to get and worked to produce the look to match his dream roles.
Christmas at New York City: a portrait session with Shania Shields
Day 5, Part Two of photography workshop with Joe McNally in a New York City studio.
I was looking forward to this part of the workshop most of all as this involved photographing a professional dancer in a studio.
Shania Shields is a 2021 graduate of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts and she is a professional dancer, singer and actress who received her BFA studio training in the drama department at Playwrights Horizons, Atlantic Acting School and Stonestreet Studios. @shania.aprill
Shania’s stage experience was greatly appreciated by everyone in our group and it was mostly up to our skills as photographers to work fast enough to capture every graceful pose and elegant move. Anyone who had ever modeled for a photography session would agree that posing is not an easy matter. You are asked to freeze and keep the pose or repeat a movement over and over, maintain precision in your position and perfection in your moves and while doing all that, your face needs to express ease and happiness at all times. Kudos to Shania for being a perfect model.
Christmas at New York City: a portrait session with Danté Crichlow
Day 5, Part One of photography workshop with Joe McNally in a New York City studio.
Danté Crichlow is an actor known for Netflix movies “See You Yesterday” (2019 and 2017)and he studied at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
Dante was part of our photography group and he graciously agreed to pose for me. I was following Joe McNally’s advice from his book “Sketching Light” to always watch for dusty windows as they are some of the best light diffusers available in the real world. That Sunday morning we found ourselves on an abandoned and badly dilapidated floor of an industrial building with huge windows that hadn't been washed for at least half-century. The bright midday sun rays were bouncing from the opposite buildings and creating ice-like patterns on the glass surfaces. Just gorgeous.
Alena’s Studio Portraits in Colorful Light
Here’s another set of portraits we created together with Alena. This time she wanted to experiment with the gelled lights and different colors. I love the mysterious and thoughtful mood of these photographs, it reflects Alena’s inner world. Which one would you select for the larger wall art?

Joe Jackson in “12 Angry Jurors”
“...My path to this play was by no means direct. I set out two summers ago to find a show that would challenge our students creatively, but one that also reflected our school’s mission and core values. With a pandemic raging and racial tensions at a peak, I struggled to find the right show... But I still searched throughout the year, reading many scripts, trying to find the ‘right’ one for this fall. Then, by a stroke of luck, I came across the title while conducting a search on a licensing company’s website. Just by seeing the title, I was flooded with vivid memories of the movie, and knew immediately that I needed to read it as soon as possible!”
